Corona, CA, May 1, 2008 -Athletes training for the 2008 Beijing Olympics at the USOC's Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA are running on “Green” polymers that are now being applied on industrial roofs. Tartan® Peace of Mind Service®, which brought the first non-mercury elastomer to track and field full pour surfacing is now available to the roofing industry as Iron Sentry™.
Chemists at MCPU developed Iron Sentry™ after years of success with Tartan, the original all weather track surface produced by Athletic Polymer Systems, sister company of MCPU. This polymer when applied to old or new industrial roof surfaces extends the life of the roof and saves building energy.
Iron Sentry's patented formula is a non-mercury elastomer. “Anytime we can remove mercury from our environment we all win,” states Dr. Tom Garrett, President. “It's a logical extension of our Cradle to Cradle® certified Tartan® track surfacing to related markets. Coating roofs with this material will extend their life, save on the building's operating costs, and help the environment.” The reflective properties of Iron Sentry protect the roof and can reduce the building cooling cost by as much as 30%. The coating can save a rusty roof, freezing the rusting process and extending the life of the roof by 10 years or more.
Ed Carter, Director of Business Development established the Peace of Mind® application process. “We took the same template for success when installing Olympic tracks to the roofing industry. Get the scope right, use only qualified applicators and provide a Peace of Mind Warranty.”

MCPU Polymer Engineering is a division of MCP Industries, Inc. For over 40 years their Pittsburg, KS facility has produced millions of pounds of athletic surfacing installed nationwide. The Olympic Training Center, Stanford, Dartmouth, Princeton, and William and Mary are but a few of the projects successfully applied with the Peace of Mind system.
